The majority of these were taken in the north of the province; at Magoebaskoof (two visits); Tzaneen (including a sequence showing sisal growing and processing); Vendaland in the extreme north and a few coming south to Orhigstad and Graskop. A group taken at Mala Mala camp is assumed to be in the Transvaal, though the precise location has not been found. The section concludes with a visit to a fishing lodge at Dulstroom in December 1969.

A handwritten note, in the same hand as the envelope captions, reads 'Accra 1939 or 1940. March past of Gold Coast Regiment before going to E Africa. Salute taken by H.E. Sir Arnold Hodson, Governor. Regiment com. [?commanded] by Brigadier Richards. This was the only series of photographs taken of it occasion [sic]'. The negative envelope is numbered '20'.

'Wide a Wake Fair', Ascension, 1884-01-27 - 1884-01-31

Scope and Contents 200 x 146 mm. Showing huge numbers of nesting wideawakes (sooty terns) on Wideawake Plain, with a figure standing among them in the background. The breeding ground of these terns formed a valuable source of food for the naval garrison in the nineteenth century, who took thousands of eggs each year during ythe breeding season; these depredations do not appear to have posed any problems to the bird's survival however, and they were a considerable danger as they nested in their thousands...

She is standing outside the fence at her house which though beehive in shape and consisting of grass laid over pliable branches, is warm and rainproof, and is very snug and comfortable inside. She wears her cloths in the typical style somewhat like a Roman toga.
