The British Bechuanaland ex. Co’s Wagons, etc, 1890
Showing a group of pioneers in the foreground with grazing oxen and wagons beyond. A forerunner of the British South Africa Company, The Bechuanaland Exploration Company was registered in 1888 to develop the mining concession granted to the Northern Goldfields Exploration Syndicate by Chief Khama of the Bamangwato the previous year. Exact location unknown, probably photographed either at Mafeking in May 1890 or during the trek through Bechuanaland to Macloutsie.
The British Residency, 1905
271 x 206 mm. A view looking across the lawn towards the crenellated Residency buildings. In front of the entrance a group is gathered around a motor car. A.S. Rogers is identifiable in the centre of the group. The Residency was built in 1903 to the designs of J.H. Sinclair, who served in Zanzibar from 1899 to 1924 and was responsible for many of the public buildings in the town, including the law courts.
