Collection of loose sepia photographs, all but one measuring 212 x 132 mm. The photographs were formerly the property of, and may have been taken by, John Verrinder Shaw, the brother of Professor Thurstan Shaw, and relate to road construction, probably in Morogoro in the 1940s. Though they do not show the same portion of road, numbers 3-10 all depict the same type of road, made by cutting away part of a slope and levelling a wide enough area for limited traffic. There are no captions.

A description of Robert Steel's five months in Sierra Leone based on his notes, diaries and letters to his fiancée, 93 pages. The work was begun by Steel in the time leading up to his death, and completed and edited by his son-in-law, Colin Johnson. There is an accompanying letter from Eileen Steel to the R.C.S. Librarian, 8 January 2000.

This collection comprises a full length portrait of Sir Ahmadu Bello and a family tree with Annabi Muhammadu at the head, and a head and shoulders portrait of a man in the centre (perhaps Sir Ahmadu Bello?).

A collection of albums containing prints. They are presentation albums from Nigerian States, recording events during official visits 1971-74 when he was British High Commissioner in Nigeria, and are presumably the work of official photographers. Albums G, H and J have the Nigerian flag as the cover design, and F, H-J have the State arms on the cover. A few of the prints have been removed from the albums and this has been noted in the catalogue.

A collection including a black album, containing 29 photographs and with eight blank sides, and loose prints and negatives, relating to the career of Sir Crampton Smyly. There are typed captions which have been used as the basis of catalogue entries. As well as photographs of the visit to Sierra Leone of the Duke of Connaught on 15 December 1910, there are numerous photographs of events of 1929, the year in which Sir Crampton Smyly retired.

A collection of studio portraits of society hostesses and personalities; prints of various sizes and by various photographers. Y3055C/2-4 and 11 are by Duffus Bros.

Twenty-three watercolours mounted on card, 12" x 16½". The paintings have pencilled titles and in some cases places and dates. They include agapanthus, antholyza, bellandonna lily, Cape Town bulbs, Cape honeysuckle (tecona-capensis), common olive, cyrtanthus, gladiolus, grenadilla, hybiscus, hyobanche sanguinea, iris, pelargonium, plumbago, sparaxis pendula and thistle.

The series includes a wide range of pictures, portraits and photographs. Titles and captions have been recorded as found and may contain offensive, inappropriate or outdated terms. The items are undated, but probably originate from between the 1960s and 1980s.
