Scope and Contents A set of 13 photographs illustrating a mural on the theme 'Commonwealth Activity under the Colombo Plan'. It was commissioned by the Duke of Devonshire, and designed and executed in 1929 by Beatrice (Lady) Murray. It was painted in the vestibule of the Craven Street entrance to the RCS Headquarters, extended down the staircase to the Commonwealth Hall, a venue which made photography difficult on account of awkward angles and lighting. In 1929 Frome’s surviving daughter, Mrs Frank Wynne, presented some of the South Australian drawings to the Royal Empire Society through the good offices of Sir Harry Wilson, to whom she bequeathed the rest of the collection.
