Photograph collection of the British Association of Malaysia and Singapore

Scope and Contents The collection comprises some 1400 prints, chiefly gathered by the BAM. When acquired by the RCS, the collection was arranged for the most part geographically by state, with handlists outlining the scope of the material. Exceptions to this arrangement were some of the individual collections in the form of albums, and a few commercially produced items. Photographic panoramas of Hong Kong, Canton, and Macau

Photographs of Bangladesh, India and Pakistan

Scope and Contents This collection comprises an album containing 187 photographs and a further 25 loose prints. Its creator is unknown, but he is likely to have been a British soldier, probably of the 1st Battalion, The Royal Norfolk Regiment, identified by the uniforms and insignia of the colour party which appears in Y302M/188. He may have been a member of the battalion’s drum corps and band, since there are several images of its members. Those photographs which are dated cover the period 1927 to 1935. ...

Photographs of Burma [Myanmar]

Scope and Contents

This collection is mostly of albumen prints of photographs taken in Burma [Myanmar] in the later nineteenth century. Many are captioned and the captions have been used as titles and have been recorded as found. Titles supplied by the cataloguer are enclosed in square brackets. Many photographs have been identified as the work of Felix Beato. All of these photographs belonged to Rodway Swinhoe, who may have bought them after the closure of Beato's emporium in Mandalay c1906.
