Masonic certificate, Boulogne, France
Certificate issued on behalf of Jean Nicholas Rodicq (see Doc 3793), member of the Masonic lodge under the title of L'Amitie, in the order of Boulogne-sur-Mer. Completed printed form with numerous lodge signatures, some said to be those of general officers under Napoleon. Scarlet oval lodge tagged seal. Endorsed with acceptance by another Boulogne lodge, 1815.

Certificate issued on behalf of [Jean] Nicholas Rodick, a captain in the 113th Regiment, French Infantry, born in 1763, Member of the Legion d'Honneur and a Master Mason in the lodge of St Jean under the title of La Philadelphie, order of Gravelines, Department du Nord. See also Doc 3794. Completed printed form with numerous lodge signatures. Seal wanting. Endorsed with acceptance by a lodge in Lille, 1804.

Material on Major-General Charles Gordon
The most notable materials from this collection are the four notes written in Arabic by Gordon while besieged in Khartoum and a contemporary map of the Sudan by the Illustrated London News. Also included are several photographs of Gordon, and material dating to the fiftieth anniversary of his death; reflections on his life, and the order of the memorial service.
