Biographical / Historical
George Clifford Evans was born in 1913. He lived in Germany at various times between 1933 and 1939, and studied at the Botanical Institute of the University (Giessen). He held the following University positions while a fellow of St John's College: 1937-46 Plant Physiology, Demonstratorship; 1946-77 Plant Physiology, Lectureship; 1977-79 Experimental Ecology, Readership (resigned 1979). These papers, assembled by G.C. Evans, were found during the clearance of the house of Oliver Rackham (d. 2015), Fellow of Corpus Christi College, in December 2015. They were presented to the University Archives by Kate Williams, Secretary, Corpus Christi College, on 7 January 2016.
