Scope and Contents

Miscellaneous papers regarding the British & Chinese Corporation Ltd:

1. Two copies of a reprint from 'The Times', 16 May 1935, of the address of D.G.M. Bernard, Acting Chairman, to the Thirty-seventh Ordinary General Meeting of the British & Chinese Corporation Ltd, 15 May 1935.

2. Two tables of loans and advances to the Chinese Government involving the British & Chinese Corporation Limited and Chinese Central Railways Limited as at 31st December 1942 and 31 December 1948 and a table detailing the financing of railways in China, 28 June 1946.

3. Extracts of minutes of the British & Chinese Corporation Ltd and related papers in connection with J.O.P. Bland, 27 May-1 September 1909, with a covering letter from L.J. Walker, Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, to B.D.F. Beith, London, 25 January 1949.

4. Typescript notes on the history of the British & Chinese Corporation Ltd, including manuscript annotations, 27 January 1949 and 15 March 1949.

5. A memorandum entitled 'British Policy in the Far East', including material on railways in China, undated.

6. Manuscript notes.

The original folder for the documents was damaged and has not been retained, apart from the label, which reads 'British & Chinese Corpt. (B.D.F.B.) Short History S-N-Rly (Shai C of C Jour[n]al)' and 'No 14'.
