Correspondence and related papers regarding the chartering of the M.V. 'Afghanistan'. The file contains correspondence between Matheson & Co. Ltd, Secretaries of the Vallum Shipping Co. Ltd, and W.J. Barnett & Co., shipbrokers, Newport, B.I.S.C. (Ore) Ltd, London, H. Butler, Newcastle upon Tyne, John Carlbom & Co. Ltd, shipbrokers and chartering agents, Immingham, Common Brothers Ltd, London, and the Vallum Shipping Co. Ltd, Newcastle upon Tyne, and related papers, including the following documents:
1. A copy of a uniform time charter chartering the M.V. 'Afghanistan' (currently under construction) from the Vallum Shipping Co. Ltd to B.I.S.C. (Ore) Ltd, 27 May 1957, accompanied by a copy of a memorandum of agreement for the construction and chartering of a new ore carrier [M.V. 'Afghanistan'] to be built by Harland & Wolff Ltd, Govan, and chartered from the Hindustan Steam Shipping Co. Ltd (Common Brothers Ltd, Managers), Newcastle upon Tyne, to B.I.S.C. (Ore) Ltd, London, 23 March 1956.
2. Copies of charter parties chartering the M.V. 'Afghanistan' from the Vallum Shipping Co. Ltd to B.I.S.C. (Ore) Ltd, London, for a voyage from the Seven Islands, Quebec, to the United Kingdom, 11 October 1957, and from Wabana to the United Kingdom, 24 December 1957; to Wm. H. Muller & Co. (London) Ltd for a voyage from Monrovia to the United Kingdom, 3 February 1958; and to Swedish Iron Ore Ltd, London, for a voyage from Narik Malmkaj, Norway, to the United Kingdom, 24 February 1958.
3. Freight accounts of B.I.S.C. (Ore) Ltd with the Vallum Shipping Co. Ltd.
4. Receipts from B.I.S.C. (Ore) Ltd to the Vallum Shipping Co. Ltd in respect of commission on the hire of the M.V. 'Afghanistan'.
The correspondence is comprised of original letters to Matheson & Co. Ltd and copies of other letters. The ring-binder is labelled 'The Vallum Shipping Company Limited m.v. "Afghanistan"'.
