Biography

The Vallum Shipping Co. Ltd was a joint venture between the British Steel Corporation Ltd, Common Brothers Ltd and Jardine, Matheson & Co. Ltd. Ltd and Common Brothers Ltd acting as the company's Secretaries and Fleet Managers respectively. The Vallum Shipping Co. Ltd was incorporated on 3 October 1956, and commenced operating on 21 June 1957 by chartering the M.V. 'Afghanistan' from the Hindustan Steam Shipping Co. Ltd. The company's first vessels, the 'Iron Age' and 'Iron Ore', were launched in 1958 and 1959 respectively, and were followed by the 'Iron Horse', 'Iron Barque' and 'Iron Crown' in 1960.
