Scope and Contents
Copies and a few extracts of correspondence between Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, and Jardine Matheson, Shanghai, 15 December 1932-27 June 1940, regarding the Hongkong Finance Co. and Hongkong & China Property Co., established to manage the Eastern properties inherited by Sir J.W. Buchanan-Jardine from his father Sir R.W. Buchanan-Jardine. The correspondents include B.D.F. Beith, London, D.G.M. Bernard, London, W.J. Keswick, Shanghai, D.F. Landale, Hong Kong, and J.J. Paterson, Hong Kong.

Loose inside the file is a plan of land at East Point, Hong Kong. The plan was originally an enclosure to property letter no. P.296 from Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, to Matheson & Co. Ltd, 8 August 1924, and highlights land which the Government wished to take back into its ownership and over which it was negotiating the level of compensation with Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong.
The subjects covered in the file include accounts - cables; Ewo Lodge; Sir J.W. Buchanan-Jardine (including proposed Eastern companies and property leases); Hankow Lot 64, S.A.D. 3; and property valuations. The ring-binder is labelled 'Hong Kong Finance Co. & Hong Kong & China Property Company'.
