‘Stonnington’ Residence of the State Governor, 1885 - 1901
Scope and Contents
197 x 145 mm. A view of the house from the drive, a white stone building which has verandahs on the ground and first floor decorated with carvings, columns and arches. The house is at 336 Glenferrie Road, Malvern, and was built as a private house, its first resident being John Wagner, the owner of the coaching firm Cobb and Co. In 1901 it was leased as the State Governor’s House, Government House being occupied by the newly-created Governor-General. The Government purchased the house in 1928.
