Picton Viaduct, 1887

Scope and Contents

346 x 262 mm. A view of the viaduct from the stream bed which runs beneath it: 'The Railway viaduct at Picton is a work of considerable importance, built of masonry, set in cement and consisting of five openings of 40 feet each. The length is 276 feet, and the height from foundation to rail level, 78 feet.' (NSW Registrar-General's Office 1886, p.84).

The line was opened as far as Picton in July 1863, the station lying just on the other side of the viaduct (not visible in this photograph).
