The Bell Jetty, 1912-07
Scope and Contents
129 x 79 mm. A view looking along the jetty at Roseau which is decorated with flags in honour of Bell's visit to Dominica in July 1912. At the end of the jetty stands an arch with messages of welcome from the Dominica Guardian, the Voice of Dominica and the people of Dominica: 'Lovely weather and everything propitious for the reception which the good folk gave me. The Administrator, Mr. Young, and good old Porter came off to the ship and we all went ashore together. The harbour was full of boats and canoes dressed with flags and the 'Bell Jetty' and the wharves were very gay with bunting, triumphal arches, and other decorations ... I could not help feeling, however, that the reception was not quite up to the one they gave me three years ago, but that could hardly be expected.' (Bell 1912, July 20).
