General

PJ. This additional information was supplied by Huw M. Jones. Charles Walters established a store at the Forbes Reef Hotel about 1899. The hotel and store were in the main building. In the photograph and the rondavel on the right was the house. He was a prospector who cleaned the tailings from the Forbes Reef Battery, and extracted some gold in 1898. In 1899, Walters discovered tin at Forbes Reef but it was not exploited commercially. He was also the Pund Master of Embabaan (Mbabane) District before the Anglo-Boer War. Walters was back after the war with his brother, Edward, prospecting and trading.
