Scope and Contents

A box containing 12 issues of the British monthly women's magazine, Nova, along with a number of tearsheets from other issues. Roger Law not only produced illustrations for some of the publication's issues, but also wrote several articles as well. The following issues/tearsheets are present:

1. October 1966 - features plasticine model illustrations, which accompany the article, Bless Me Father, For I Have Sinned, written by Norman Price (RL/Pre-/702). These illustrations won a silver award from the Designers & Art Directors Association in 1967.

2. May 1967 - pages 161-172 feature woodcut print illustrations, which accompany the first part of an extract from Len Deighton's novel, An Expensive Place to Die (RL/Pre-/1000).

3. Tearsheets containing pages 129-140 from the June 1967 issue, featuring the second part of an extract from Deighton's novel, An Expensive Place to Die, which is once again illustrated with woodcut prints (RL/Pre-/1001).

4. January 1968 - pages 39-43 feature plasticine model illustrations, made by both Law and Deirdre Amsden, as part of a piece titled, A Day in the Death of Harold Wilson (RL/Pre-/780).

5. September 1971 - page 62 features a plasticine model illustration, made by both Law and Amsden, which accompanies an article on the Conservative politician, Peter Walker (RL/Pre-/759).

6. October 1972 - pages 69-71 feature three plasticine model illustrations, which accompany an article about Lord Goodman, written by John Heilpern.

7. June 1973 - pages 70-71 feature a plasticine model illustration, which depicts Noël Coward as a butterfly, and accompanies a tribute article about the English playwright. The model was made by both Law and Amsden (RL/Pre-/708).

8. Tearsheets from the September or October 1972 issue, which contain a plasticine model illustration that accompanies the article, A Secret Diary on Lord Longford's Committee, written by Jack Gale (RL/Pre-/730).

9. November 1973 - pages 144-145 feature a plasticine model illustration, which depicts Princess Anne and Mark Phillips as race horses.

10. January 1974 - page 42 features a plasticine model illustration, which accompanies the article, Maverick in the Mind, written by John Heilpern (RL/Pre-/710).

11. July 1974 - pages 28-30 feature the article, Jerry and Charlie Can Get You Most Things Wholesale, written by Law. The article is about Charlie and Jerry Rosenberg, and their company, Jamaica Gas & Electric (RL/Pre-/1043).

12. November 1974 - pages 104-105 features a plasticine model illustration, relating to hunting.

13. February 1975 - page 41 features a plasticine model illustration, which accompanies the article, Whose Class Enemy?, written by Andrew Duncan (RL/Pre-/853).

14. March 1975 - page 48 features a plasticine model illustration of Roger Law in a bar, as part of the article, Who Am I? (RL/Pre-/1055).

15. Tearsheets from an unidentified issue, containing pages 64-65, which feature pencil drawing prints that accompany the article, The Season of Goodwill: What a Pity It Doesn't Last Longer, written by Norman Price (RL/Pre-/821).

16. Tearsheets from an unidentified issue, containing pages 98-99, which feature a plasticine model illustration that accompanies the article, Dr. Stomach Has Been Called to Higher Things (RL/Pre-/776).

17. Tearsheets from an unidentified issue, containing pages 76-78, which feature plasticine model illustrations that accompany the article, Who Counts in the Country Set, written by Roy Perrott (RL/Pre-/733).

18. Tearsheets from an unidentified issue, containing pages 80-81, which feature collage illustrations by both Law and Amsden that accompany the article, Is It True What They're Saying About Hampstead?, written by Peter Way.
