Scope and Contents

Richard, Prior of St Thomas the Martyr, Bromhill, to John Clifton, knight. Lease of a fishery in Barnham with enclosure and appurtenances, for fourteen years from Michaelmas last past; leased at a rate of 20 shillings per annum payable at Christmas, Easter, Nativity of St John, and at Michaelmas. Clifton is to repair 'les bayes' and 'les outhotes' of the fishery with timber in the first year, and keep it in good repair during term, and maintain the house of the fishery in carpentry, roofing, and daubing 'les flodgates' and 'les flasshes', and maintain the way called le Dam. Also to perform all other services due to chief lords and others. Distraint if rent unpaid at any time. John Halberd of Thetford and John Baxster of the parish of St Cuthbert there have entered bond for £10 to prior and convent, payable at Easter next; not to be invoked if Clifton fulfils rent and conventions. Warranty by Prior and convent. Ratified at the Chapter House, Bromhill.
