Note from JW, March 2021: according to John Peile’s Christ’s College (1900), p. 38, the manor at Roydon was in the college’s possession from 1505 (given by Lady Margaret, to whom it was granted that year) until 1531. Peile writes: “In 1531 it was worth only £43 a year. But Henry VIII coveted it, in order that he might give it to Anne Boleyn. Accordingly…it was surrendered by the College in 1531, in exchange for Bromhill Priory in Norfolk”. Again according to Peile, Bromhill Priory also owned East Hall in Feltwell; the manors of Otryngham, Methwold and Croxton; the parsonage of Croxton; fishing rights at Barnham and Witton Wear; and messuages in numerous ‘towns, parishes and fields’.
