She also discusses [5th] Lord Rosebery's loss of nerve and speaks of the "dreadful ending" to Randolph's life.

She also comments on Jennie's financial situation and the expense of renting a house in Portman Square [London].

Part of a letter from [Marquis of Breteuil] (Villa Breteuil, Tarbes [France]) to Lady Randolph [Churchill] in which he apologises for not writing to her sooner; describes the poor weather; says that he is looking forward to seeing her [in London]; asks her to give him the name of the hotel next to her house, describes the countryside and recommends that she should visit with her children [WSC and John S Churchill].

Letter from Diana [Churchill, later Diana Bailey and Diana Sandys] (2 Sussex Square [London]) to "Grannie" [Lady Randolph Churchill] in which she thanks her for a box of chocolates, reports that she is to attend the Trooping of the Colour with WSC, that Sarah [Churchill, later Sarah Oliver, Sarah Beauchamp and Sarah, Lady Audley] is better and that Randolph [Churchill] has gone to school. Letter from WSC (Brighton [Sussex]) to "Papa" [Lady Randolph Churchill] in which he says that he hopes his father had a good journey [to India] and that he watched his father's ship sailing away.

Letter from [Lady Randolph Churchill](2 Connaught Place [London]) to [Lord Randolph Churchill] including: her decision not to go to Monte Carlo [Monaco]; the deterioration in the health of "Papa" [Leonard Jerome]; the illness of [Frances, Duchess of Marlborough]; and news that WSC has passed his Preliminary Examination in all subjects and is in a special Sandhurst class, an achievement for which she suggests he should be rewarded.

Letter from Lord Randolph Churchill (Tarbes [France]) to [Lady Randolph Churchill] including: his impressions of Tarbes, [the Marquis de] Breteuil's unease at the possible effect of the arrival of Jeanne Granier, a French actress, on the local electorate; his desire that WSC should read during his school holidays and his outrage at the marriage of the Duke of Montrose.
