Scope and Contents From the File:

The first 8 items (photographs) were taken at the very beginning of the British team's excavation of Citadel house in 1954, when the initial discovery was believed to be a reservoir. Subsequently, this impression was revised and changed to the designation 'storeroom'. The Citadel House area, designated ‘Area Gamma (Γ)’, was a complex of buildings that was to be excavated fully under the direction of Lord William Taylour during the 1959-1969 seasons.

Scope and Contents These records provide a working summary and indexed overview of the pottery and small finds generated during the course of an excavation season. They do not exist for the 1920-1923 seasons and started with Helen Wace assuming administrative oversight and organisation of the excavated material unearthed: numbering, description, labeling and photography in 1939. In 1956 Lord Taylour visits several cities, towns and villages in Italy. These photographs encompass a broad range, including images of buildings (cathedrals and baptistries, the Leaning Tower of Pisa and houses); ancient Roman and Etruscan architectural and artistic remains, as well as dolmens, images of Lord Taylour and his crew, streets, landscapes, fountains, beaches and animals ('goats in play' and a 'sacred raven'). There are also photographs of the excavatory process in Avetrana.

1967's trips see Lord Taylour travel through Italy and Greece, featuring a range of sites including Pompeii, Benevento, Metsovon, the Perama Caves, Meteora, Delphi and St Aubyn's, Ireland. This file comprises a range of ancient Greek and Roman monumental sites, as well as views of the Pindus range, local costume and village lads in Metsovon, picnic groups and a party of aristocrats at St Aubyn's, an image of Lord Taylour included.
