Biography

In 1873 a syndicate led by Hugh Matheson (1821-1898) purchased the Rio Tinto mines in Spain. The syndicate launched the Rio Tinto Co. Ltd the same year, with Hugh Matheson as President and Matheson & Co. Ltd as Agents.
