280 x 225 mm. A view looking across the plain from a small wooded rise, with the river Nepean in the middle distance, and the township (indistinct) beyond the river. The town lies about 36 miles west of Sydney and in the early years of the nineteenth century was abundantly populated with emus.

The Nepean River is in fact part of the Hawkesbury River system, itself over 300 miles long, but its various parts given four different names. When discovered, they were thought to be different rivers and the old names have been retained.
