132 x 81 mm. A view looking towards the circular thatched cottage with surrounding verandah, owned or rented by Bell at Blue Bay in the south-west of the island. The handwritten inscription on the reverse reads: 'The dear cottage of Blue Bay, 'Pointe d'Esny', Mahébourg, Mauritius. To dear Sir Hesketh Bell from Cécile Raffay.'

Scope and Contents 105 x 90 mm. Showing fish in a pool coming to be fed. Sir Geoffrey Archer records that when Bell became Governor of Mauritius in 1916: '... he built, at the bottom of Government House garden, an aquarium juting out into the sea. There he used to exercise an almost uncanny fascination for the deep-sea fish which, at a sign from him, would come swimming up to the surface to be tickled and fed.' (Archer 1963, p 44).This aquarium, being on the seashore, is presumably the one built...
