The caption to the right of the photograph reads: 'In the centre of the picture is Niapu himself (wearing a felt hat). He is just walking off into the forest to relieve nature. This called for quite a ceremony. His orchestra who were sitting about, began playing with great abandon, and the girls began singing his praises'.

A collection of photographs, measuring 240 x 180 mm, probably by official photographers, of the air lift of Nigerian troops to the Congo as part of the United Nations force (ONUC). The first of these went in November 1960: those serving in Kivu Province, where Kindi is situated, were the 5th Battalion and the Field Squadron. Nigerian troops served in the Congo until 1964.
