Showing a group of musicians from the 'Symphonikat', a society formed in 1946 for the study and diffusion of musical knowledge among the population of Katanga. The typewritten caption on the reverse reads 'En mai 1946, à Elisabethville des indigènes évolués ont constitué un orchestre dénommé 'Symphonikat' (Orchestre Symphonique du Katanga). Cette société, don’t les autorités ont approuvé les statuts, a pour but l'étude, la pratique et la diffusion de la musique parmi les populations du Katanga'. Photograph by E. Lebied.
