Notice the way in which the performers whiten their faces by the use of fine cerial flour.' 210 x 160 mm. The caption continues: 'First grade cloves. Note that all cloves have 'heads'. There are in fact the main parts of the flower bud (a mass of stamens enclosed in small bracts). If the clove bud opens before it is picked and dried then the clove will have lost its 'head' and the quality of the sample reduced.'
