The note on the back of the print continues: 'The house and huts in the background are occupied by the Chief Regent of the Swazis when she visits Mbabane.'

208 x 155 mm. A view looking across the Mbabane River (on the banks of which can be seen excavations from alluvial tin mining) towards the Residency grounds. The house is situated on a small rise overlooking the river and is largely obscured by a plantation of trees.

A woman and child stands on the steps leading to the veranda. Robert Thorne Coryndon (Resident Commissioner 1907-1916) would have been in occupation at this date.
Wayside Store and Hotel, Forbes Reef, 1910 - 1911
208 x 156 mm. Showing the Forbes Reef Hotel ('Walter Bros. Proprietors'), a long single storied building with a wooden trelliswork veranda and corrugated iron roof. Beside it stands the stores, a small circular hut with thatched roof. The town (now abandoned) was named after Alex Forbes, who discovered gold in the region in the late 1870s. It is situated about 15 miles west of Mbabane.
