[Tomb of President Paulus Kruger in Pretoria], 1900 - 1910

Scope and Contents

152 x 205 mm. Showing the grave of President Kruger in the old cenetry at Pretoria, consisting of a massive black marble tombstone topped by a white bust of him (1825-1904). To the left of his grave, in the same plot, is the tomb of his second wife Gezina Susanna Frederika Wilhelmina Du Plessis (1831-1901) whom he had married in 1847. Kruger died in Switzerland and was embalmed and temporarily laid in a vault beoire finally being moved to Pretoria.

The rest of the images are uncaptioned, but their general locations have been identified by reference to the diary RCMS 353/1.

191 x 141 mm. Showing men of the Pretoria Rifles posed for a group photograph in the countryside outside Pretoria. The unit’s rifles are stacked in the foreground and many of the men hold axes. A printed explanatory caption on the print itself is largely illegible through fading.
