A copy of a letter from Sir David Gill describing the Royal Visit of 1901, 7 pages. The address and ending are missing from the letter. It includes reference to several vessels and persons of eminence. There are two accompanying letters regarding the gift of the letter to the R.C.S., and a memorandum by D.H. Simpson, R.C.S. Librarian, providing background information.

Teignmouth Melvill and Lt. Nevill J.A. Coghill 1 Batt 24th Regiment who died on this spot 22nd Jany 1879 to save the Queen's color of their Regiment.'
