This file contains notes, correspondence, newspaper clippings and journal articles collected by Bell during his research into Charles George Gordon’s service in Mauritius. It includes copies of two letters by Gordon dated 1883 and copies of two reports that Gordon submitted in 1881 on the suppression of the East African slave trade and colonial defence. Some material was later added by RCS Librarian Donald Simpson (circa 150 sheets).

Kabarega (c.1850-1923) succedded his father Kamurasi to the Bunyoro throne in 1869 after a civil war with his brother. He then set about restoring the old Bunyoro Kingdom and by 1876 had conquered the neighbouring Toro country.
