These letters record Bell’s tour of southern and western Uganda, including visits to the kingdoms of Ankole and Toro. They describe the terrain, natural history, African peoples and European missionaries he encountered during his travels (28 sheets).

Letters to Sir Thomas Fowell Buxton from Sir Samuel Baker and Sir Roderick Murchison. There is a covering letter from Mrs M.C. Ponsonby, 8 February 1939, presenting the letters to the R.C.S., and the Librarian's reply, 9 February 1939. The folder also includes 'Royal Commonwealth Society library notes', no. 19 (July 1958), comprising the article 'Sir Samuel Baker and the slave trade', which transcribes the letters and comments on them.

245 x 188 mm. Showing the paddle steamer transporting a barge on Lake Albert. It was a replacement for ‘Lugard I’ (1927-1948) and saw service on the lake from 1948-1964. It was the only side paddle steamer used by the Lake service.

A scrapbook album containing prints by various photographers, including Alfred Lobo. The prints are of various sizes and the majority are captioned in Bell's hand. Captions composed for this catalogue are enclosed in square brackets. Among the scenes and events depicted in the album are the Kampala Exhibition of 1908, views of Government House, Entebbe, the visit of Winston Churchill to Uganda in 1907, sleeping sickness sufferers in Uganda and durbars in Northern Nigeria.
