Letters, 1906 - 1924
Scope and Contents
This series begins with letters written by Bell to his aunt Maria [Bell?] between 1906 and 1915. On 20 Apr. 1931, Bell noted ‘With the exception of references to her own concerns, these letters are duplicates of those bound up in my diaries.’ After her death, the letters are addressed to Bell’s sister Eleanor or Ellen Bell, who married an Irish barrister named John Francis Scully, and her daughter Marjorie, who married Arthur Apperson. Some of these later letters appear to have been based upon lost or discarded diaries, and others to have formed a kind of surrogate diary.
