The date of construction of this residential block, an ornately decorated building with pediments, attached Corinthian columns, turrets and domes, was about 1911, (Massey p.108).

Horse drawn trams, introduced abortively in Calcutta in 1873 and on a permanent basis from 1880, can be seen in the roadway, (Massey p.85).

281x217mm. View looking N. along Council House Street, showing the E. facade of the Department of Commerce and Industry built on the site of the old Foreign Office. A two storey brick building with a terrace roof, the Department has an arcade running along the ground storey, with a colonnade of Tuscan columns above. The facade of the building is broken by three pavilions, those at the ends being pedimented. Date of construction unknown, (Massey p.70).
Dhurrumtollah Mosque, 1880 - 1889

The Mosque of Prince Ghulam Muhammad, built c.1840, is in the centre of the print, with the premises of Lawson & Co. at the left and the Chowringhee Hotel at the right.
