A collection of three uncaptioned loose prints measuring approximately 210 x 150 mm. There is no indication with the prints of what they depict and their source is unknown. The pictures illustrate attempts to remove a tree which has fallen across the path of a narrow gauge rail track. From the smallness of the line, it is possible that this is the trolley line on Mombasa Island.

The diary records Bell's years as Commissioner (later Governor) of Uganda, notable for his efforts to combat a sleeping sickness epidemic, develop cotton cultivation among other economic initiatives, and to improve the protectorate's transportation network. Bell describes his official duties and colleagues, Uganda’s peoples and landscape, and his social life and personal affairs. The diary contains one photograph (circa 150 sheets).

Scope and Contents An illustrated diary of Christopher Barlow's journey from Kano, 23 February 1928, through French Equatorial Africa, Belgium Congo, Sudan, Uganda and Kenya, arriving at Mombasa on 27 March, a total of nearly 3,500 miles. On pages iii-iv is a list of journeys undertaken by Barlow, 9 March 1927-19 February 1928. The volume includes thirty inserted photographs, as well as a copy of Barlow's entry in the 'Nigeria Civil Service list', 1929, and a letter to the Librarian of the Royal Empire...
