A note accompanying the print reads: 'Captain von Hirsch at Kiboriani at the time of the Maji-Maji Rebellion. He was the Commanding Officer at Fort Mpapua. He defended the C.M.S. missionaries at Kiboriani. With Captain Nigmann ?Niemann he started out for the relief of Captain Hassel who was surrounded by 10,000 rebels at Fort Mahenge with all his ammunition...

106 x 82 mm. General view of the church at Kiboriani, a long single storey building with a shallow pitched roof of lime and sand, without tower or steeple. It was built by T.B.R. Westgate in 1906. When the Germans used Kiboriani as an internment camp in the First World War the church was used as a kitchen.
