Exide battery, 1928
156 x 108 mm. On the back of the photograph: 'Exide battery on Buick box body car after being swept off the car and mostly demolished in passing over a broken down culvert in Tanganyika. One cell was completely destroyed, the other two damaged, and the whole of the acid spilled. The remaining two cells were filled with ditch water, wiring improvised and the car driven 40 miles to the railway'.

Cloves which are to be transhipped are covered with a gunny cover over the ordinary matting bag.
