Coming of age of Sultan Seyyid Ali bin Hamoud, Wednesday June 7th 1905, 1905-06-07

A view showing the front façade of the Sultan’s palace, the Beit el Ajaib, a few moments before the arrival of officials for the General Baraza (gathering) held to celebrate the Sultan’s coming of age and the end of the Regency. Troops line the entrance gates while the palace balconies are crowded with Arab and consular officials and a military band stands beside the palace steps. The ceremonies and celebrations are described in the ‘Zanzibar Gazette’ for June 14th 1905.
