The items are undated, but probably originate from between the 1960s and 1980s.

Captain Van der Ven, Cape Town, 1868 - 1880
40 x 65 mm. (Vignetted oval). A carte de visite half length studio portrait of the bearded Captain Van der Ven. Wilhelmus J. Van der Ven is listed as living at Sea Point in The Cape of Good Hope Directory and Almanac for 1868. By 1879 he is listed as a wine merchant residing at Arnheim House, Buitencingel. In the 1880 edition, he is listed as being in Europe and does not appear in the 1882 edition.
