Two letters from William Spiers to Burney, 1832 - 1833
The letters, dated 2 July 1832 (?) and 1 Feb 1833, discuss trade conditions and ask Burney to improve on Crawfurd's trade treaty.
Two unidentified letters, 1827
Much of the correspondence relates to an article printed in the 'Penang Gazette' on 17 April 1827, written by Captain Lake, Inspector-General of Plans at Penang, criticising the treaty the that Burney had recently negotiated with Siam [Thailand]. Several of the letters were written by William Cox, the editor of the paper. Burney's complaints to the Government of India were upheld.

Two annotated drafts of an article by Hugh Bryson describing how the tribute of golden and silver trees and flowers was sent from the Sultan of Kedah to King Edward VII in 1909, following the transfer of the suzerainty of Kedah from Siam to Britain. There is also a letter from Bryson to the Royal Archives at Windsor, enquiring about their location (7 sheets).
