83 x 61 mm. A view from a hillside looking down on a longhouse raised on stilts, with an atap roof curving up to pointed ends. A smaller second storey rests on top of the main structure. The Menangkabau States were the small territories between Malacca, Pahang, Johore and Selangor whose original inhabitants are supposed to have come from Menangkabau in Sumatra.

This does not correspond with the description of Isabella Bird which describes the building in 1879 as a substantial dark wood building (Bird, 1883, p. 280) and therefore presumably is the new Treasury and Audit Offices offices, built 1884-1885 at a cost of $10, 000 (See Further correspondence respecting the Protected Malay States (c. 4958 of 1887, p....
