Exchange, Gresham Street, 1870 - 1879
275 x 209 mm. View looking west across Gresham Street, with the eastern façade of the Exchange visible at the right, overlooking Macquarie Place. This two storey building, with composite pilasters running through both floors, was later enlarged by a further two floors. The left hand building, with its first floor windows flanked by paired Ionic columns, housed a number of businesses, among them that of the Land Surveyor Ernest O. Smith.
Exhibition Building, 1870 - 1880

A view of the baroque building, with its dominating fan-shaped window above the entrance, which was built for the 1870 exhibition, celebrating Captain James Cook’s discovery of Botany Bay in 1770. The building was situated in the Prince Alfred Park behind the railway station and was demolished in 1954 in order to build a swimming pool.
