Scope and Contents A collection of coloured slides, 18 of which measure 40 x 40 mm, the remainder 35 mm, all mounted 50 x 50 mm, relating to Commonwealth Universities, with the exception of 33 of non-Commonwealth Universities which were, however, associated with the Inter-University Council for Higher Education Overseas (IUC). 122 x 122 mm. A view showing a man, possibly a correspondent, beside his camel watching a wounded dervish on the battlefield. Another aspect of the battle that came in for later criticism was the killing of wounded dervishes. In many cases, however, there was little else the advancing army could do since throughout all the Sudan campaigns it was dervish practice to fight to the death and several men were killed and wounded while attempting to help the fallen.

All the photographs in this album were taken by me, on a safari from Victoria (B. Cameroons) to Port Sudan. This journey lasted from April 7/35 till August 2/36. The photographs are of anthropological interest only, and deal mostly with the Mangbetu tribe in the northern Congo; the Karamojong in Northern Uganda, and various tribes in the southern Sudan.
