Scope and Contents

'Reise journal der expedition am Weissen Flusse-Central Afrika' describing Knoblecher's journey south from Khartoum to Gondokoro and Rejaf, 1849-1850. This is a transcription in German from the original in Codex 14152, 'Biblioteca Palatina Vindobonensis', Vienna, made by Richard Gray for his 'A history of Southern Sudan' (1961).

Biographical / Historical

Dr Richard Gray (b. 1929) was Professor Emeritus of African History at the University of London, and lectured for several years at the University of Khartoum. Father Ignaz Knoblecher (1819-1858) was a pioneer missionary in Africa.
