The figure in the foreground is possibly the young Daudi Chwa.

Abruzzi, an explorer and mountaineer who had led a Polar expedition in 1900, and climbed Mt. Ruwenzori in 1906, visited East Africa again in 1909 to climb Mt. Kenya. Abruzzi was later (1915-17) Commander-in-Chief of the Italian Navy.
