Mess tent and forest, Mt Elgon, 1890-02
155 x 113 mm. Showing the mess tent standing on open hillside above the main camp with densely wooded hills behind. This print, the following photograph and LS/28 are not specifically mentioned by Gedge, but on February 22nd he writes of bamboos ‘many having fallen across the track’ and of camping in the open after leaving the forest. It is probable therefore that this group of prints relates to this period.

This collection of photographs relates to Roger's career on the East African mainland and in Zanzibar. Hardly any of the photographs are captioned, but there are some cuttings from the Zanzibar Gazette inserted and from these and from the Gazette itself it has been possible to identify a large number of the subjects with reasonable certainty. Some photographs are by A.C. Gomes and J.B. Coutinho; others are possibly by Rogers himself.
