120 x 155 mm. View of Suman looking out the window of a caboose door. The caboose offered accommodation for the two crews which manned the long distance trains. One crew worked while the other rested. The cabooses were divided into three sections for drivers, firemen and guards.

It is a green album with 'Camera studies' on the front cover, published by Johnsons of London, and provides interest as a record of European social life in Kenya, and numbers 20, 23-26 and 29 provide a clear and detailed picture of a white settler's sitting room. There are three gaps in the album, and though there are three loose prints (46-48) their subjects do not correspond with the captions of those missing. Inside the cover is written 'L.E. Grundy...

155 x 113 mm. Showing a group of porters in the foreground with a clothes line strung from a tent beyond. On September 30th Gedge had referred to ‘rain and thunder in the afternoon again, v. heavily, everything drenched again’ and on October 1st he writes ‘Remained quietly in camp for rest of the day. Took a photo in the afternoon.’ This is presumably the picture referred to as no other camp photographs from this period survive.
