A series of photographs relating, as the title suggests, to the areas of communication, commerce and industry. The title was chosen by the National Library of Jamaica, and is one of those based on the headings used for the sections of the 'Commonwealth in Focus' exhibition.

Constant Spring Hotel, 1900 - 1910

Scope and Contents 232 x 178 mm. A view looking across a small valley towards the spacious hotel, with mountains in the distance. The hotel is situated about six miles north of Kingston: 'Who has not heard of the Constant Spring Hotel? Its fame has gone throughout the world. The palatial caravansary stands on the summit of a gentle slope... the plan of the main building is rectangular... around it are extensive gardens and lawns for tennis, croquet, etc., where human art and ingenuity only serve to bring...

162 x 116 mm. Showing the front of the Court House at Mandeville, a building of similar design to that seen in Y3073B/10. Of square construction with two curving staircases leading to an entrance on the first floor and with an entrance at ground level directly beneath the stairs. This Court House is of a rather more elegant design, however.

Scope and Contents 193 x 128mm. General view of the exhibition buildings in Kingston, photographed from the open space in front. The buildings consist of a long two storey range with towers at either end and a central dome flanked by towers on each side of the main entrance. The exhibition was opened by the Prince of Wales, then commanding H.M.S. Thrush on the North America and West Indies Station, on 27 January 1891. Nearly 303,000 persons were recorded as having visited the exhibition before it closed on 2...
