The photograph shows a group of three Kandyan Chiefs in traditional costume, one seated, two standing, with two attendants, and a few spectators in the background.This is a modern copy of one of 1874 once in the possession of Colonel John Younger, R.A. He served in Ceylon from September 1872 to March 1877, chiefly in command of a battery at Trincomalee, but was A.D.C. to General Henry Renny, who commmanded the troops in Ceylon...

The Prince of Wales has not been positively identified: he may be hidden behind the foundation stone or he may possibly be one of the figures climbing the steps up to the marquee.
