Letters from Clementine, Lady Churchill to Churchill, 1956-03 - 1956-08
Scope and Contents
Two letters from Clementine: firstly, March 1956, when she was at sea returning from Ceylon [later Sri Lanka] via Bombay [India], describing her parting meeting with Sir John Kotelawala [Prime Minister of Ceylon]; secondly, August 1956, from St Moritz [Switzerland], commenting on Churchill's weekend with Lady Juliet Duff, saying that she had made a bet that Harry S Truman would be the Democratic candidate in the American Presidential elections and admiring Queen Elizabeth II for braving the bad weather so as not to disappoint the people of Oban and the Western Isles [Scotland].
