280 x 212 mm. Similarly posed to Y303E/40 and Y303E/41, and showing four Singhalese preparing quills of cinnamon. After the bark has been removed from the branch it dries and curls. The procedure seen here is that of packing the smaller lengths inside the larger to form canes about three feet long.

The Diamond Jubilee celebrations are in progress, with crowds gathered round the Governor’s pavilion and troops of the Lancashire Regiment beyond. The celebrations took place on June 29th.

275 x 214 mm. Showing troops drawn up on parade, with artillery pieces in the foreground and spectators lining the field. The main Jubilee celebrations took place on 29th June 1897 (see Y303B/5) but may well have continued into the following month. This parade, or salute, is certainly not taking place on the main Esplanade and is probably in the Bogambra Ground. Photograph probably by W.L.H. Skeen & Co.
